Passion! Actually, that one word says it all. Passion is the one word describes how I have felt about my career in the beauty industry. I love all areas of being a hairdresser.
I have spoken to countless numbers of hair dressers over my years in the beauty field that feel exactly as I do about the career path that they choose for their life. We are lucky because we are encouraged to be individuals in the workplace. We are expected to be creative and share
our personalities. As a result, we are rewarded with smiles and comments from our clients and friends such as “I love my hair” and “my skin looks fabulous” many times a day.
Think about it. We were the very first social networks! Twitter and facebook were patterned from our every day working career. Who is the first person that people share their problems with, what is happening with their new boyfriends, their spouse, or children, or shopping tips, vacation hotspots, etc ? Of course, their stylist.
In today’s fast paced world, it is hard to get someone to stop and listen to what is happening in our lives. We have our clients’, our friends’, attention for an hour. During our chats, these clients have become friends (see, I have referred to them as friends from the beginning because they are…friends). In social networking, we spend time sharing our lives with our friends. Isn’t our industry the same? Social networking began in salons with stylists.
A computer can never take your place! Our friends, clients, come to see us because of the bonds we share that last a lifetime. We are in control of our place in the beauty industry. We can work in a salon anywhere and determine our desired income. We have countless opportunities! There is no other career that allows this. We do not need to fit into the company “mold”. We are allowed to be ourselves. I love that our industry allows for all these things. I love that I can make people feel good on a daily basis. I love being a cosmetologist and a cosmetology and
aesthetician instructor. Passion…yes, I have it for this industry!
